U'boys will resume training on Monday, August 16. A first meeting between old and new, with Head Coach Chris Chougaz, to start another season, on which the whole club has serious hopes for sporting results.
We have now concluded to nine players, out of the ten for the roster of 2021-2022 season. The latest recruit is a 21 year old young man, Neils Pharose, who has spent two years in Pro B, in Saint-Chamond. This strong player of 1.99m will seek to have playing time and bring his experience of the professional division. Trained at ASVEL, Neils Pharose will be happy to meet the requirements of NM1.
For the 10th man of the Union, we will probably not have to wait very long. On Monday, at the first meeting of the team coach Chougaz will have the 8 out of 10 players who will work with him in the coming months. The only one absent, the American Manuel Kendal, blocked by a visa problem, as often happens with the USA. Nelson Mandela's grandnephew is expected to join the team at the end of the month.
In the meantime, Chris Chougaz and his collaborators will take care of the physical condition of the players, prior to the preparation matches from August 28 with a trip to Poitiers which descended from Pro B. The Pascal-Thibert tournament in Tarbes will follow , on 11 and September 12, with the participation of Union, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Dax, then the visit to the Spanish neighbors of Huesca, on Saturday September 18.
Official games will start on Wednesday, September 22, on the occasion of the 1st round of the Coupe de France. The Union Tarbes / Lourdes will host a Pro B team, Blois.
Finally, the championship will kick off on September 25, with a trip to Vitré. The first match at home ,will be held on October 1 against Vendée Challans.
Note that in Pool A of the Union, Poitiers replaces Tours and Cergy-Pontoise takes the place of Vanves who preferred to play at a lower category.
We do not yet know the reception conditions for spectators, which may vary depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
See you all soon!!!
